The L-root Name Server, updated

The L-root Name Server replica at the Catalonia Neutral Internet Exchange Point (CATNIX) has been updated. The new server hosting this replica, based on Dell architecture, is an appliance, developed and installed by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the organization that manages it.

The L-root Name Server replica has been in operation at CATNIX since 2012. Together with the F-root Name Server (managed by the Internet Systems Consortium, ISC), the J-root server and .com and .net replicas (all of them managed by Verisign) and the K-root Name Server (managed by RIPE), this L-root Name Server improves the DNS response time, since replicas are physically close to CATNIX members, and the security is increased because the global impact is minimized in case of DDoS attacks.
