Looking Glass is a useful tool in the resolution of operational problems in nets environments, especially in those related to connectivity and rooting between providers, because it allows having a vision of rooting rules of those regarding its nets. This point allows providers to carry out a more complete diagnosis of the problem without having to contact with the network operation centre of any other provider.

The Looking Glass functionalities have been increased with the incorporation of IPv6 and the addition of new commands such as 'show ip bgp' in IPv4 or 'show bgp summary' in IPv6. Looking Glass used to allow the execution of commands like ping or traceroute only, towards the addresses of institutions connected to the CATNIX.
